Azad Maidan is a domed monument built by the Portuguese in 1843. Today Azad Maidan shows a memorial dedicated to freedom fighter Tristao de Bragança Cunha a Goa hero. These days the square is a favorite spot for various types of protests in Goa, where different opinions are voiced and issues discussed, or open screaming matches at supposed injustices.
