There is nothing to compare with the breeze in your hair as a boat ferries you to your destination in Bangkok. Life here has always centered around the river and the network of canals spreading through the city. Board an express boat bound for the Grand Palace or charter a longtail boat and wander up the canals north of the city and you will soon see why Bangkok was once called "Venice of the East."
