Hua Hin Images 13 images Created 17 Mar 2009

Hua Hin is one of the oldest Thai resorts and owes its popularity to the royal family's rural palace. The town combines the attractions of a modern holiday destination with the charm of a very active fishing port. Hua Hin is on the Gulf of Thailand and a fashionable weekend getaway resort town thanks to its proximity to Bangkok. The town has maintained a quiet, relaxing seaside resort for family vacations. As a fishing port, there is an abundance of seafood, a major attraction to Thai visitors.

  • Guanyin and 1000 Arms - The Buddhist legend from the Complete Tale of Guanyin and the Southern Seas: vowing to never rest until she had freed all sentient beings from reincarnation but despite her best efforts she realised that there were still unhappy beings so her head split into eleven pieces. Hearing these cries for help Guanyin attempted to reach out to all those who needed aid and found that she now had a thousand arms to let her reach out to those in need.

  • Wat Khao Takiab is situated on a rocky promontory south of Hua Hin by a small picturesque fishing village. Khao Takiab is also know as "Monkey Mountain" due to large numbers of monkeys macaques that are resident there. While not really fierce care should be taken when they are around as they have a habit of grabbing and making off with anything that takes their fancy.

  • Fat Chinese Buddha at Khao Takiab hill, also known as Monkey Mountain thanks to the large numbers of macaques that live, or rather infest the area. Khao Takiap projects over the sea for a fabulous view: there is a trail to the top of the mountain, where visitors can clearly admire the scenery of the beach and Hua Hin city.

  • Hua Hin Beach Horse - The seaside in Hua Hin has always been a popular retreat for residents of Bangkok to get a breath of fresh ocean air. It is also popular for loading up on fresh seafood, pony rides on the beach or simply beachcoming by the wharf. The custom of roaming the beach on horseback is less and less popular these days because of the waste dropped onto the beach by horses.

  • Hua Hin Railway Station is an architectural treasure of gingerbread woodwork, it's special royal waiting room on the platform is a favorite sight for tourists and arrival train passengers. The station and the town itself exude rural charm.

  • Wat Tham Khao Tao is a large temple in the village of Khao Tao. The temple has a cave with Buddha images and more images are being raised right along the shoreline. Overlooking the village with it’s many fishing boats there are various Buddha statues, as well as others devoted to famous monks, Kannon, not to mention Disneyesque dragons.

  • Wat Thum Khao Tao is found at Khao Tao "Turtle Hill" near the southern end of Suan Son Beach in the sleepy fishing village of Baan Khao Tao. Thum Khao Tao is a Chinese Buddhist Temple which has been built on the hill overlooking the beach and the ocean - an unusual temple in that it features many concrete structures of dragons, buddhas, and even a shrine to sunglasses.

  • Hua Hin Khao Takiab Fish Market - Thailand is lucky to have many beautiful seaside cities with an abundance of fresh seafood, and Hua Hin is certainly one of htem. Once a funky and lowly collection or ramshakle huts under Khao Takiab Hill, the Sea Market is THE source for lovers of the freshest seafood while retaining a touch of local life. When you see fishermen next door to their family fish shops repairing nets, you know this is the real thing.

  • Khao Takiap Beach - Khao Takiap headland is considered the best beach in Hua Hin. On top of this, Khao Takiap has a temple on top of the hill, complete with its infestation of monkeys. Quieter than more central beaches, it is the go-to place for those who crave quiet and to appreciate the ocean rather than town life.

  • Khao Takiap Buddha -The rocks at the end of Hua Hin's beach, Khao Takiap headland is now the site of newly erected condos and luxe hotels while still retaining something of quiet, rural Hua Hin with a giant Buddha overlooking the beach.
