Mui Ne & Nha Trang Images 11 images Created 24 Mar 2009

Located between Saigon and Nha Trang, Mui Ne is a small, quiet town on the coast of southern Vietnam which has a long beautiful beach popular with windsurfers. It is also known for the unusual and spectacular sand dunes at Phan Thiet. Though in recent years Nha Trang has become quite developed with more than its share of concrete, Mui Ne is still primarily a fishing port and has the fresh seafood restaurants to prove it.

  • Mui Ne Dunes - The White Sand Dunes, or Bao Trang at White Lake is the top attraction at Mui Ne, after the beach itself. The massive, saharan dunes range from gold to pure white There are also red dunes further south near Mui Ne village.

  • The Grand Hotel in Nha Trang was built in French Colonial style, resembling a provincial government building or village. The government runs it, unfortunately, and have installed glaring flourescent lights everywhere, thin utilitarian matresses and the ugliest furniture imaginable, relegating this once fine place into a 1 star hotel. Usually known as merely "44 Tran Phu" from its street address, right across from Nha Trang Beach since it no longer lives up to its name as "grand" except insofar as its architecture.

  • A wide variety of seashells wash up on Mui Ne Beach, which indicates the healthy waters in these parts. In recent years Mui Ne has become the favourite beach town for Saigonese, wishing to avoid the city's crowds.

  • Vietnamese basket boats are used as ferries to go out to the main fishing boats and back to shore. These baskets are also sometimes used for artfully displaying "catch of the day" at seafood restaurants once they have retired from service as boats.

  • Although in recent years Mui Ne has become a popular beach resort town near Saigon, its original claim to fame has always been abundant fishing, producing some of Vietnam's best fish sauce or nuoc mam.
