Phnom Penh is at the confluence of the Mekong and the Tonle Sap rivers. In recent years, Phnom Penh has tidied up, and become a destination of itself. Red tape in Thailand has caused many expats to flee Bangkok and set up shop in Phnom Penh instead. Though perhaps not "The Paris of the East" of pre 1970s Phnom Penh, the city's French colonial buildings are beautiful, and its streetscapes make for a pleasant walk especially along Sisowath Quay.
