Tohoku is made up of of six prefectures of northern Honshu, Japan's largest island. It is well known for its countryside, mountains, hot springs, high quality rice and deep snow in winter. It is also where Matsushima Bay is found, one of the "Three Best Views" of Japan, with hundreds of islands some of which take odd shapes. Tohoku is also famous for its sake, the Neputa Festival and UNESCO World Heritage sites in Hiraizumi.
