Fontainhas is the old Portuguese quarter of Panaji or Panjim as the town is often called.
Fontainhas latin quarter has a special atmosphere distinct rom the hustle of the main city, with narrow streets and colourful Portuguese houses. The district lies at the base of the hillside called Altinho, and springs from the hillside, gave it the name Fontainhas. The old world charm has been kept due to the fact that most houses in the area are painted red, yellow, green or blue, often with overhanging balconies.
