Koganei Park is the second largest park in the Tokyo metro area after Kasai Rinkai Park. Koganei Park opened to the public in 1954 and has a number of attractions including forests, cherry trees, childrens playgrounds, an archery, a steam locomotive, and tennis courts. The park used to be called Koganei Great Greenery Park designed and created as a commemorative project for the 2600th year of National Foundation celebrated in 1940. During early postwar years, it was used as a temporary palace for the Crown Prince. Koganei Park is famous for its cherry blossoms in April with more than 2000 sakura cherry trees. It is also home to Edo Tokyo Open Air Architectural Museum.
