Hong Kong Tram - Thanks to population growth in Hong Kong, the demand for public transport began in 1881. Consequently the British government built a tram system on Hong Kong Island in 1901. The Hongkong Tramway Electric Company Ltd was established in the UK, and was responsible for building & operating the tramway system in far away Hong Kong. 
which later became known as Hong Kong Tramways. There were 63 tramcars in service by 1946 but by 1956 those numbers more than doubled to 146. Now there are far more, despite the fact that the MTR metro subway system is much faster and travels along much of the same routes. Nevertheless, the Hong Kong Tram is a popular way to get around especially for short hops. These trams have always been double deckers, but advertising was introduced in the 1950s to keep passenger fare down.
