The Hanoi Opera House was built by the French colonial government during the early years of the 20th century. Construction began in 1901 and was completed in 1911. The Hanoi Opera House is considered to be typical French colonial architecture in Vietnam. It is a small-scale replica of the Palais Garnier, the older of the two opera houses in Paris.
