The Kyoto Railway Museum offers the opportunity to experience Japan’s steps toward modernization through its railways. Facilities include academic research information, based on extensive files, books and images. The mean goal of the museum is to create a place of learning where visitors can discover and experience the history of Japanese railways for themselves. Besides several series of Shinkansen Bullet Trains, including the original built in 1964, there are train yards, steam locomotives, gear boxes, engines and endless displays for the true train aficionado. The museum is in Umekoji Park.
