Santa Cruz Cathedral Basilica in Fort Kochi is one of the heritage buildings of Kerala. The basilica is of the Diocese of Cochin, one of the oldest Diocese of India. It was originally built by the Portuguese & designated to Cathedral by Pope Paul IV in 1558, . The British demolished the structure and Bishop Gomes Ferreira rebuilt it in 1887. Santa Cruz was later proclaimed a Basilica by Pope John Paul II in 1984
