Faded French-Colonial Architecture in Hue, Vietnam - In order to make colonists feel more at home and at the same time to reflect its vision of imperial grandeur, the French colonial government set about building Vietnamese cities according to European specifications. Often painted ochre or lemon yellow, these structures are commonly government offices and little appreciated by your average Vietnamese. In other instances, they have been tarted up by foreign owners and turned into cafes or hotels.
