Kerala backwaters are a chain of lakes and canals lying near the Malabar Coast of Kerala in southern India. This is a a network of interconnected , rivers, canals and lakes which has created a labyrinth system of more than nine hundred kilometers of waterways. The backwaters were formed by waves and currents creating islands across the mouths of rivers
