The ostrich, Struthio camelus, is the largest bird in the animal kingdom. The ostrich was once known as a camel bird thanks to its long neck and jolting walk similar to a camel. Ostriches are found in both deserts and savanna. This bird can never take to the skies. Instead, it can run very well. Its long, thick, and powerful legs can cover great distances without effort.
