pillow-lava-1.jpg
Pillow lava is named this because of the pillow shapes attributed to the lava having been exposed underwater. They are characterized by masses created when magma reached the surface but becvause the difference in temperatures between the lava and the water, the surface cooled very quickly which formed a skin. This process produced interconnecting shapes that look like pillows in appearance. They are classified as bulbous, spherical or tubular lobes of lava.
