31.1 Hiroshima Peace Park 広島平和記念公園 is in the center of Hiroshima, dedicated to the legacy of Hiroshima as the first city in the world to suffer a nuclear attack on August 6, 1945 which led to the death of 140,000 people. The Industrial Promotion Building is now known as ‘the bomb dome’. The purpose of the Peace Memorial Park and its museum is to not only commemorate the victims but also to preserve the memory of nuclear horrors and advocate world peace. The chilling displays in the park’s museum show in vivid and unforgetable detail the horrors of nuclear war.
