The Binh Thuy House in Can Tho was one of the sets for the movie "L'Amant" though most of the story takes place in nearby Sa Dec. In an effort to make French colonists feel more at home and at the same time to reflect its vision of imperial grandeur, the French colonial government set about systematically rebuilding Vietnamese cities according to European specifications.
