Minamijima Island is an uninhabited island just south of Chichijima and designated and protected as a natural monument of Japan. Ogiike Beach is a unique rock gate and the transparent ocean in the background. In spring and autumn seabirds make nests here. Only 100 tourists may enter the island per day during certain months of the year and all visitors are required to be accompanied by a certified tour guide. Its submerged karst terrain and subfossiles of snails that went extinct about 1000 years ago.
