The greenery on the rooftop garden at Mitsukoshi Department Store Nihonbashi main branch was named Tsunagi no Mori based on the Japanese view of nature and the idea of Niwaya Ichinyo in the form of a strolling garden. The original Japanese landscape, which was created through the interaction between people and nature, is expressed through the gabled roof and native trees. These design innovations were incorporated to avoid placing undue stress on the 100-year-old building structure. Although this generation of garden was created in 1991 there has long been various forms of rooftop gardens at Mitsukoshi Nihonbashi dating back to the 1940s.
