During the urban planning of Sapporo, Sapporo's Odori Park was originally designated as the main street but it eventually became a park. Odori means "large street" in Japanese. Throughout the year, many events and ceremonies such as the Sapporo Snow Festival are held in the park, as well as local landmarks such as Sapporo TV Tower and numerous fountains are within the park.
