iya-valley-vine-bridge-5.jpg
The Iya No Kazurabashi, a rather daunting tree vine suspension bridge over the Iya River. This ancient vine bridge is suspended between a valley, surrounded on both sides of by ancient forest, slowly swaying in the breeze. Actinidia arguta vines are harvested from the mountains during the harsh winter, are woven together to form the vine bridges, and have to be rebuilt evey few years.. These became extremely important lifelines for people in the region, and were common along the Iya Valley at one time.
