sanja-matsuri-3.jpg
Fundoshi at Sanja Matsuri - the biggest of Tokyo's three Grand Festivals and a splurge of boisterous mikoshi processions through the streets of Asakusa. There's plenty of drinking, dancing, music and other kinds of fun. Held near Sensoji Temple and Asakusa Shrine in Tokyo the parade draws over two million people into the streets. The gold and black lacquer mikoshi are the vehicles of the shrine's deities - the purpose of the procession is to bring luck and prosperity to the area and its inhabitants and show off ones' buns.
