Hyoza-Taisha-Garden 04.jpg
Hyoza Taisha Garden - Hyozu Taisha is a shinto shrine built in the Nara period - its garden is also an old garden with few stones, created during the Heian period despite the garden is well preserved and even today in good condition. There is a legend that the deity worshipped at this shrine reached its current location by crossing Lake Biwa. In fall every year, a ritual is held on the shores of the lake in which the chief priest enters the water with the object of worship at the shrine, and bathes it in the lake; another example of the strength of the connection between water and prayers in the region. The shrine garden is only open during spring and autumn, and closed to the public in summer and winter.
