Saigon Notre Dame Basilica or as it was originally known Cathedrale Notre Dame de Saigon. Today it is officially called Basilica of Our Lady of The Immaculate Conception. It is the main cathedral of Ho Chi Minh City, usually called Saigon, even today by the Vietnamese. The cathedral was constructed between 1863 and 1880. Following the French conquest of Indochina the Roman Catholic Church established a community and religious services for French colonialists. All building materials were imported from France: even the outside walls were built with bricks imported from Marseille.
