Lau Pa Sat, formerly known as Telok Ayer Market, stands out as one of Singapore's premier hawker centres. Dating back to 1822, it occupies a majestic colonial building - This Victorian octagonal-shaped structure was built from cast iron in Glasgow and shipped in 1894 to Singapore where it was reassembled on the waterfront. The structure was given a massive facelift in 1986 and turned into a hawkers food centre.
