Takenomaru Garden is made up of stones and a mound. just below Kakegawa Castle. The castle itself was built by Asahina Yasuhiro but later the castle fell into the hands of Yamauchi Kazutoyo, a vassal of Hideyoshi Toyotomi. Kakegawa had grown to be a wealthy castle town during the Edo Period thanks to its location on the mainline Tokaido Road between Kyoto. Today Kakegawa Castle sits in parkland and is a pleasant, historic spot to visit in Shizuoka Prefecture.
