Nakatajima Sand Dunes extend about 4 km long from east to west along the Enshu-Nada coast with an unobstructed view. The wind on the dunes creates exotic patterns that resemble works of art. Loggerhead turtles, which are an endangered species, come on shore here to lay eggs in summer. The eggs are protected and released by a local nonprofit organization. The west side of the dunes become a site for flying kites in early May every year, for children’s day during Golden Week. Nakatajima Sand Dunes are often used as a filming location for movies or promotional videos.
