A chozuya or temizuya is a water basin for purification at Japanese temples and shrines. These water basins are used by worshipers for purifying their hands and mouth before approaching a shrine or temple. The basins at temples or shrines are called chozubachi. Very similar basins are found in Japanese gardens and tea ceremony huts but are called tsukubai.
