kishiwada-castle-1.jpg
Kishiwada Castle - the original Kishiwada-jo dates back to the 1300's, but reconstructed castle was founded by Koide Hidemasa in 1585. Okabe Nobukatsu took control of the castle in 1640; his ancestors ruled until the Meiji Period. The original keep was hit by lightning and burned in 1827. The reconstruction has only 3 tiers. Still, it is an impressive site, and has a very noteworthy modern Japanese garden in its courtyard, designed by Mirei Shigenori.
