fort-aguadas-lighthouse-02.jpg
Fort Aguadas was built as a reference point for ships coming from Europe at the time. The Portuguese fort stands at the confluence of the Mandovi River and the Arabian Sea and was constructed in 1613. A spring at the fort provided water to the ships which is how the fort got its name. On the fort stands a fat, squat Portuguese lighthouse built in 1864 - the oldest of its kind in Asia though no longer used after 1976, instead a more modern lighthouse is used nearby.
