Higa Garden is an urban park located in the center of Yokohama city that opened in the Meiji era. When it first opened, it was called Koga Park. The entire park is designated as a nationally registered scenic spot. The current Japanese pond garden on the site was built in 1978 when next door Yokohama Stadium was constructed. There is a stone lantern from Iwagamero, a garrison house of the Minatozaki red-light district that existed in this area during the Edo period. In 1866, just before the Meiji Restoration, the entire red-light district was destroyed in a huge fire, and this park was built in its place.
