  • The Shinkansen 0 series were the very first Shinkansen bullet trains, not only in Japan but in the world. They were built to run on Japan's new Tokaido Shinkansen high-speed train line which began service in 1964. The first Shinkansen bullet trains provided not only fast train service between Tokyo, Osaka and Kyoto but also to show the world, during the 1964 Olympics, that Japan had “arrived” and was a tech power to be reckoned with.

The 500 Series of Shinkasen Nozomi was one of the most popular designs, because of its long thin needle shape.
