  • Sailing at Hayama Marina - Hayama Marina and Sagami Bay have been chosen by the Japan Olympics committee to host the 2020 sailing events, in conjunction with Enoshima, just across the bay. Several teams, including the sailing crews from Poland and the UK have chosen Hayama, Kanagawa-ken, as their headquarters during the event. Hayama is also the site of regular Nippon Cup sailing events that take place yearly, in cooperation with the Hayama Marine Yacht Club. The small town of Hayama is also known for its fine beaches and for the Emperor of Japan’s seaside villa, off limits to the public, but adjacent to one of the top 100 beaches in Japan, popular in summer. Off season, Hayama is a quiet seaside fishing village, with an interesting population: a mix of creative types who need quiet and reflection away from the distractions of Tokyo yet only an hour away by train; also evident are wealthy people from Tokyo with weekend villas and condos, as well as retired people who abandoned Tokyo for the easy life by the sea in their golden years. Sagami Bay is contained within the Miura Peninsula on its eastern side to the Izu Peninsula to the west. However, the segment from Miura to Enoshima island is ideal of sailing conditions and thus its popularity in the area, thus its selection as 2020 Olympics sailing venue. As an added plus, there are view of Mt Fuji to be seen on clear days, though usually not in summer.

  • Model Ship Vendor - Rizal Boulevard in Dumaguete was named after Dr. Jose Rizal, it is said that Dr Rizal made a brief visit and took a stroll here before departing to neighboring Dapitan where he was exiled for four years following the Spanish authorities’ suspicion that he was about to lead a revolution. The Boulevard is immediately visible when coming into Dumaguete port via any sea vessel. From the white lamp posts lining up the stretch to the stately palms swaying in the breeze, Rizal Boulevard is a favorite landmark for residents and visitors.

  • Batu Ferringhi also has some of the nicest beaches on Penang Island. The long stretch of beach on the northern flank of Penang Island, of which Batu Ferringh beach is part of, is combination of wide golden-sand beaches and picturesque deep blue-green coves surrounded by large granite boulders that tumbled from the hilly interiors of the island, right into the sea. The name Batu Ferringhi itself attests historically to Penang's brushes with several different foreign powers, including the British, the Dutch and the Portuguese. Some locals believe that the word Ferringhi was derived from Portuguese which means 'foreigners rock'.

  • Yellow Sails on a Halong Bay junk. Halong Bay, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is one of the must-see spots of any visit to Vietnam. Note that almost all boats are motor powered, and the sails are mostly decorative - so much so that they are not often unfurled. Typically, a cruise on the bay involves a retrofitted junk, lots of food, kayaking and cave exploration.

  • Nagasaki Port was once the only door open to foreign countries during Japan's iisolation during the Tokugawa Shogunate. Dutch traders, and to a lesser extent Chinese, were allowed a small contingent during this period to keep trade alive with the rest of the world, where western science was allowed to sneak into Japan, and thus Nagasaki played a major role in the modernization of Japan.
