Just outside of the Old City, Wat Lok Moli is not often visited and usually visitors will have the place to themselves to share with the monks and novices. The entrance to Wat Lok Molee is guarded by two impressive stone elephants.  Intricate mosaics decorate the main hall with images of Hinduism  as well as Buddhism.

  • Chedi at Wat Phra Kaew in Chiang Rai once known as Wat Pa Yeah (the Temple in the Golden Bamboo Forest because it was surrounded by a  bamboo grove) Its name was changed to Wat Phra Kaew in 1434 after the chedi was struck by lightning revealing the Phra Kaew Marakot  Buddha within.   • Wat Phuak Hong or “temple of the flight of swans” is a small temple within the old part of Chiang Mai  within the moat.  The temple’s main feature is its multi tiered circular chedi, built in a style very unusual for North Thailand.  Wat Phuak Hong was built during the 16th century though its founding date is not known with certainty. The temple’s circular chedi is named Chedi Si Phuak Hong which - Its style differs from other chedi in North Thailand influenced by Yunnanese architecture or it is a circular version of the stepped Mon chedi of the Wat Ku Kut in nearby Lamphun.

  • Tibetan Monk Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche devoted considerable efforts to founding and sustaining temples and monasteries where the study and practice of Buddhism could be undertaken. One of his last great tasks was the founding of a new Shechen monastery in Nepal to replace the destroyed one in Tibet.  Fifty sculptors, painters, goldsmiths, silversmiths and builders flocked to the site from Bhutan, Tibet and India to take part in the work.

There are 108 images of the Buddha set around the base of the stupa.   • Wat Umong or its complete name Wat Umong Suan Puthatham is a 700 year old temple in Chiang Mai, Thailand located against the mountains of Doi Suthep. Wat Umong is unique in that the resident monks live in a very natural setting, and even feed the deer that live in the area. There are tunnels with Buddhist images which can be explored. The tunnels were supposedly painted with bush scenes so they could keep a famous, but mentally deranged monk, within the grounds of the monastery as he had a habit of wandering off into the bush for days on end.

  • Wat Phnom is one of the most important pagodas in Phnom Penh as well as being the city's namesake. Built in 1373 is the tallest religious structure in the city. Built on an artificial hill by the wealthy widow Daun Chi Penh after a great flood washed statues of Buddha downstream, it has since been renovated. There have been many additions to the original shrines over the centuries. The largest stupa houses the ashes of King Ponhea Yat. Wat Phnom is the center of city celebration for the Cambodian New Year.

  • Wat Pramaiyikawat Chedi - Wat Pramaiyikawat is on the tiny island of Ko Kret, which lies in the Chao Phrya River in Bangkok.  The temple was constructed in Mon Burmese style architecture.  One of the chedis that overlooks the river, is tilting and falling towards the river, as the result of frequent flooding and climate change.

  • Wat Suan Dok which translates as Flower Garden Temple. The Chiang Mai campus of the Buddhist Mahachulalongkornrajavidyalaya University is housed within the temple compound. The large 48 meter high bell shaped chedi was built in the Sri Lankan style. Relics of the Buddha are said to be contained within.  The large sala kan prian is located directly east of the main chedi. It was built in 1932 by the famous monk Phra Krubra Srivichai. The main Buddha statues inside the sala kan prian are placed so that they look out at opposite directions. The statue of the Buddha seated in meditation Bhumisparsha Mudr? looks towards the east. The other statue, a standing Buddha holding a bundle of straw, faces west towards the chedi. Placed in front of the seated statue one finds a smaller Buddha in the Lanna style, created during King Kue Na's time.
